SQL DBA Lead (Permanent)

Location: Ashford, Kent Country: UK Rate: £70k - 73k per annum, Benefits: Fully Remote +
 
SQL DBA Lead - Remote - £73,000

A highly reputable organisation that directly affects the lives of thousands of individuals within the UK is currently hiring an SQL DBA Lead who possess strong project leadership capabilities from a technical/hands on perspective coupled with proven mentoring/coaching capabilites to junior DBA members. The chosen candidate must have recent hands on DBA capabilites in MS SQL 2016+, MS SQL Server Management, Query Store, Performance Monitor and Red Gate Suite. Additionally, as our client migrates into the cloud any exposure to AWS/Azure/Google Cloud would be highly advantageous for up and coming projects.

Our client is paying a basic salary of £73,000 circa with remote working (occasional visits to office) in Ashford, Kent with excellent benefits and inclusive of on call.

Key responsibilities:
  • Managing the organisations database systems, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations and security protocols.
  • Design, implement, and maintain a robust and secure MS SQL database infrastructure to support critical medical applications while optimising database performance.
  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy, particularly in patient records and medical information, through rigorous data validation, quality control measures, and proactive issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement comprehensive backup, disaster recovery, and data retention strategies for continuous availability of data, especially within MS SQL environments.
  • Lead capacity planning efforts to anticipate and accommodate growing data needs driven by medical operations and research initiatives and contribute expertise to strategic decision-making.
  • Take accountability for the overall performance, reliability, and security of the database systems and ensure timely issue resolution to prevent disruptions.
  • Provide accountable leadership for the DBA team's development and performance, fostering a high level of expertise, productivity, and collaboration.

Core technical skill set to be considered for post:
  • Strong leadership capabilities leading a small team of DBA professionals (must have)
  • Successful experience in hiring, developing, and guiding the growth of DBA professionals (must have)
  • Extensive database management expertise, specialising in large-scale integrated systems (must have)
  • Proven track record of optimising database performance and ensuring data security in MS SQL environments (must have)
  • Proficiency in MS SQL and DBA tools, such as MS SQL Server Management (must have)
  • Strategic mindset to integrate database strategies with long-term organisational goals (must have)
  • Previous experience of AWS/Azure/Google Cloud (nice to have)
