Senior Embedded Software Engineer (Permanent)

Location: Cambridge Country: UK
 

La Fosse is looking for a Senior or Principal Embedded Engineer who can help the team design Architectures for defence and security applications. You will be called upon to develop solutions at the system level as well as take on the detailed electronic design work required to realise your concept.

Although this role is focused on defence and security applications, you will have the opportunity to apply your skills to other sectors in which we are active including healthcare and consumer. Sharing ideas across sectors is Embedded within our way of working.

The key technologies for our current projects include:

  • Embedded Linux, RTOS and bare metal applications on custom design platforms
  • Ultra-low power electronics and firmware including a broad range of communication technologies (Cellular, WiFi, BLE, DECT NR+, Zigbee, Sub 1GHz, NFC)
  • Microcontrollers using a range of peripherals (RTC, SPI, I2C, UART, Crypto Engines, DMA, ADCs, USB, AI/ML accelerators)
  • Microprocessor systems using a range of peripherals
  • 'hardsec'/novel hardware-based cybersecurity.

Qualifications

  • A proven track record of developing elegant hardware architecture with respect to size, power, or cost.
  • Well versed in a breadth of core electronics disciplines including analogue and digital circuit design and a deep understanding of Embedded systems (potentially includes schematic capture). An excellent understanding of key Embedded technologies including microcontrollers and/or microprocessors including a broad range of peripherals and interfaces
  • Exposure to the full product life cycle from concept generation through to product release including demonstrable experience of delivering your designs into service.
  • Possession of a good understanding of the regulatory landscape of the UK, EU and US and a proven track record of designing for compliance with appropriate standards. And the following qualities:
  • Someone not afraid to be 'Hands-on' and work with the team to work through challenges from first principles on the bench.
  • Energy and enthusiasm to take on unfamiliar challenges, coupled with the ability to innovate and think freely.
  • Enthusiasm to help build the careers of our less experienced engineers.
